Lando Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has beaten his teammate at each of the last five grands prix.
Lando Norris edged out team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the dying seconds of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the title advantage from his teammate by one point after winning in Mexico City a fortnight back, outpaced the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Before then, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before the sprint shootout due at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the championship fight, lying 36 points behind Norris, ended up in 17th position as his team ran a alternative strategy.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to have an incident, if briefly, when he lost control at corner four early in the session.
Tsunoda lost control over the track edges before rotating through the gravel trap, and was fortunate to escape with just a slight brush of the barrier.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the very end of the practice, turning around through the fast downhill Mergulho turn approaching the final corner on to the pit straight.
Hamilton wrapped up in P19, just behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car in third, over half a second slower than Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was in fourth, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
